What is 'High pressure laminate'
Mar 15, 2018

(High pressure laminate) facade panels are made from thermoset plastic laminates (HPL) in accordance with EN 438-6, Type EDF to provide effective weather protection. The panel core is made of kraft papers, which are wood-based materials impregnated with synthetic resins. Weather protection is provided by a coating of double hardened acrylic polyurethane resins. HPL panels are manufactured in laminate presses under conditions of high temperature and pressure.

HPL is produced by saturating multiple layers of kraft paper with phenolic resin. A layer of printed décor paper is placed on top of the kraft paper before pressing. The resulting sandwich is fused together under heat and pressure (more than 1,000 PSI). Because phenolic and melamine resins are thermoset plastics, the curing process transforms the resin into plastic by a cross linking process that converts the paper sheets into a single, rigid laminated sheet. Thermosetting creates strong, irreversible bonds that contribute to its durability.

High Pressure Laminate (HPL) Press Line is used for producing HPL board, which are commonly known as Compact or Formica. They are commonly used in the fields of kitchen furniture, office furniture, industrial decoration, exhibition material, interior decoration of automobile, ship, etc.
